YS Sharmila May Merge In Congress in January, To Campaign in AP during Elections
YSR Telangana Party’s President, YS Sharmila, is expected to unite her party with the Congress in the initial week of January 2024.
As per reliable sources within the Congress, Sharmila is likely to be bestowed with a significant position in the central leadership of the party.
Her role will be influential in Andhra Pradesh during both the state assembly and Lok Sabha elections, anticipated to take place early in 2024.
As per our reports, If such a scenario occurs, a member from the YSR family will directly confront the YSRCP under AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
It is worthy to note that in the year 2009, following the demise of then Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy, his son Jagan established his own political party. At that time, YSR’s wife Vijayamma and daughter Sharmila showed their support for Jagan.
According to party sources, the initial discussions about merging with the Congress party were halted due to the Telangana assembly elections. However, these merger talks are expected to resume in the third week of December.
According to sources, Sharmila has agreed to assume the role of general secretary within the AICC (All India Congress Committee).
As part of her new position, she will also be appointed as the in-charge for a state in the northern region. In her capacity as general secretary, Sharmila is set to actively campaign for the Congress party in Andhra Pradesh during the upcoming 2024 general elections.
To this end, she has been tasked with organizing two election meetings within the state, specifically in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada.
Those familiar with Sharmila’s plans have mentioned that she intends to associate the Visakhapatnam meeting with the Visakha Steel Plant, while the Vijayawada meeting will be linked to Amaravati.
In Visakhapatnam, Sharmila will be joined by Priyanka Vadra, while in Vijayawada, Rahul Gandhi is expected to accompany her.
Despite the party’s request for her to address an additional meeting in Rayalaseema, Sharmila has not made a decision on the matter. Reportedly, she conveyed to the Congress that she is mindful of not disrupting her brother Jagan’s support base in the Rayalaseema region.
According to inside sources, discussions are underway regarding two possible options for her political journey.
One option includes the prospect of contesting from the Khammam constituency in Telangana to secure a seat the Lok Sabha, while the other option entails representing the neighboring state of Karnataka in the Rajya Sabha.
Sources informed our reporter that she hasn’t reached a definitive decision on this matter yet. She remains uncertain about whether to participate in direct elections and win a Member of Parliament (MP) position, or to pursue a seat in Parliament through the Rajya Sabha.
Well, we need to wait and watch…
