Foundation Stones Set for Ambitious Rs 9,000 Crore Petroleum and Natural Gas Projects in Tamil Nadu!

- The Prime Minister has kickstarted two significant projects in Tamil Nadu focused on petroleum and natural gas, with a total value exceeding Rs 9,000 crore.
- These ventures include the establishment of extensive natural gas pipelines—Indian Oil Corporation’s 488-km-long pipeline and HPCL’s 488-km-long pipeline.
- This move is a crucial stride towards improving the country’s infrastructure for the efficient transportation of natural gas.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated crucial projects in the petroleum and natural gas sector, collectively valued at over Rs 9,000 crore.
The two projects dedicated to the nation are the 488-km-long natural gas pipeline by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), connecting IP101 (Chengalpet) to IP105 (Sayalkudi) in the Ennore-Thiruvallur-Bengaluru-Puducherry-Nagapattinam-Madurai-Tuticorin Pipeline.
Additionally, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) is working on the 697-km-long Vijayawada-Dharmapuri Multiproduct (POL) Petroleum Pipeline (VDPL).
PM Inaugurates GAIL’s Krishnagiri to Coimbatore Natural Gas Pipeline
Also, the establishment of a 323-km-long natural gas pipeline from Krishnagiri to Coimbatore, a section of the Kochi-Koottanad-Bangalore-Mangalore Gas Pipeline II (KKBMPL II) by Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) was initiated.
Additionally, there is the installation of Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricant (POL) pipelines in a Common Corridor for the proposed grassroots terminal at Vallur, Chennai.

According to an official statement, these ventures in the petroleum and natural gas sector are significant steps toward meeting the energy needs of the region for industrial, domestic, and commercial purposes.
Moreover, they are expected to generate employment opportunities in the area, contributing to overall employment generation.
The PM also inaugurated the Demonstration Fast Reactor Fuel Reprocessing Plant (DFRP) at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) in Kalpakkam.
This state-of-the-art facility, developed at a cost of Rs. 400 crore, features a distinctive design that is unparalleled globally.
The DFRP has the capability to reprocess both carbide and oxide fuels discharged from fast reactors.
Notably, it is entirely the creation of Indian scientists, marking a significant milestone in the progress towards establishing large commercial-scale fast reactor fuel reprocessing plants.
PM Modi lays foundation stone of Rs 20,000 cr in TN
The PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects exceeding Rs 20,000 crores in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu today.
These projects span various sectors including rail, road, oil and gas, and shipping.
In his address, the Prime Minister extended New Year wishes and expressed delight at commencing his public programs in 2024 in Tamil Nadu.
He highlighted that the projects, valued at over Rs 20,000 crores, will significantly contribute to Tamil Nadu’s progress.
Congratulating the people of the state, he emphasized that the initiatives in roadways, railways, ports, airports, energy, and petroleum pipelines would not only enhance travel but also create numerous employment opportunities.
At the Tiruchirappalli public program, the PM inaugurated the new terminal building at Tiruchirappalli International Airport, developed at a cost of over Rs 1100 crore.
This two-level international terminal can accommodate more than 44 lakh passengers annually, offering modern amenities for passenger convenience.
The Prime Minister dedicated several railway projects to the nation, including the doubling of rail sections, electrification projects, and enhancements in rail capacity.
These initiatives aim to boost economic development and employment generation in Tamil Nadu.
Additionally, the Prime Minister inaugurated 5 road sector projects, including four-lane roads, laning projects, and other road infrastructure developments.
These projects will improve connectivity, ensuring safer and faster travel and linking important industrial and commercial centers in the region.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for crucial road development projects, such as the construction of a four-lane road connecting Mugaiyur to Marakkanam.

This road will enhance connectivity to East Coast ports, the Mamallapuram world heritage site, and the Kalpakkam Atomic Power Plant.
The General Cargo Berth-II (Automobile Export/Import Terminal-II & Capital Dredging Phase-V) of Kamarajar Port was also dedicated to the nation.
This inauguration is expected to strengthen the country’s trade, contributing to economic growth and employment generation.
