Custodial Death: Telangana High Court’s Division Bench Raises Alarm In dealing with a PIL case regarding the alleged custodial death of Nitish Kumar at Gachibowli Police Station.
The Division Bench of Telangana High Court has voiced its concern.
The Telangana High Court’s division bench, which includes Acting Chief Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili and Justice N Rajeshwar Rao, expressed their concern on Thursday over the unfortunate demise of Nitish Kumar, an inhabitant of Bihar.
They were addressing a public interest litigation case relating to the supposed custodial death of Nitish Kumar at the Gachibowli Police Station.
According to a newspaper report, Nitish, employed as a security guard at a construction company in Nanakramguda, was arrested on Saturday night and subsequently died while in police custody.
Following receipt of a letter from a practicing lawyer, the bench promptly initiated a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on its own accord to address the issue.
Gachibowli Police Denies Allegations, Cites Natural Causes for Nitish’s Demise
Gachibowli’s police have refuted the accusations against them, presenting to the court that Nitish’s death was in fact the result of a heart attack.
James Babu, the Inspector of Gachibowli police, stated that Nitish, along with two other workers, was detained after a dispute at a construction site on Saturday night.
Inspector Babu further added that the police had comprehensive evidence of all of Nitish’s activities within the police station premises, from his detention until his death.
The police claim that Nitish fell unconscious in his cell. Swift actions were taken, including initiating a call for an ambulance and performing CPR on him.
Unfortunately, he was already died upon arrival at the hospital. The hearing of the case was subsequently postponed by the bench, awaiting future proceedings.
