Today, following an official appointment announcement, Rakesh Pal assumed his role as the 25th Director General of the Indian Coast Guard.
Replacing Virendra Singh Pathania, who retired on January 31, 2023, Pal originates from the ICG Cadre.
On the very day of Pathania’s retirement, the Ministry of Defence assigned the senior-most ADG in the ICG, Pal, the Additional Director General responsibilities, effective February 1, 2023.
As a graduate of the Indian Naval Academy, Pal has served the Indian Coast Guard since January 1989.
He further enhanced his expertise with professional specialization in Gunnery & Weapons Systems from the Indian Naval School Dronacharya in Kochi and an Electro-Optics Fire Control Solution course from the United Kingdom.
He has earned the esteemed distinction of being the first Gunner of the ICG, adding to his list of commendable achievements.
Throughout his 34 years of service, both at sea and on land, he has assumed a number of significant roles.
He has served as the Commander of the Coast Guard Region (North West), Deputy Director General (Policy & Plans), and as Additional Director General of Coast Guard at the Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi.
Furthermore, he has undertaken several staff assignments for the Coast Guard Headquarters. For example, he assumed the position of Director (Infra & Works) and Principal Director (Administration).
