PFI Ban Case

To see the PFI case, the GoI has chosen the presiding officer of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, (UAPA) tribunal.

The Central government has notified the appointment of Delhi High Court judge Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma as the presiding officer of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) Tribunal.

The tribunal will review the 5-year ban imposed on Popular Front of India and its affiliate organizations.

Now, the PFI has the choice to argue its case in front of a tribunal, which must concur with the government announcement for the ban to remain in effect.

The UAPA provides that no such ban shall come into effect unless the same is confirmed by the Tribunal.

The tribunal can endorse or reject it depending on the reasons given. PFI has been accused of indulging in ‘unlawful activities’ jeopardizing countries’ integrity and security.

What Is PFI And Its Mission?

• Popular Front of India (PFI) is an Indian Muslim political organization.
• The organization was formed to counter Hindutva groups. PFI was banned by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs on September 28, 2022.

Why PFI Banned In India?

It is to be noted that nationwide raids have been carried out last week after NIA and ED came to know that the PFI was raising funds abroad and transferring them to India clandestinely to use them against India in illegal methods.

These searches and arrests are being made against the persons involved in “FUNDING Terrorism, Organizing Training Camps, And Radicalising People to join the proscribed organization.
