Residents of Vinayaka Nagar, shaikpet continue to live pathetically despite the claims of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao who brags about the most advanced municipal solid waste collection, transport and treatment system in the country and that no other Metro city was equipped with such a facility.
Over the last two decades of rapid urbanization, change in life styles of Hyderabadis and rise in population has resulted in generation of huge quantities of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW).
The quantity of MSW generated is much higher than the quantity collected, transported and disposed, leading to pilling up of uncollected waste in streets, public places and drains.

There is hardly a week that goes without tagging us on twitter by the residents of vinayakanagar of their pitiful condition, in which they are forced to live.
Even the basic entrance road which leads to vinayaka nagar is distressing for local residents and commuters.

It is not that the residents don’t complain to local GHMC officials. They do, but their requests are put to deaf ears, according to the local pro-active social activist MARYALA AJAYKUMAR
In the above tweet, Ajay is requesting AE_Ward94_GHMC official and referring to no action being taken even after 6 days. “pls somebody respond sir. This is at entrance of shaikpet with horrible road” he wrote, tagging different commissioners like DC, ZCs.
Earlier this month on Aug 5 on the day of Vara Lakshmi Vratam, Ajay tweeted about the pothole that has been unimproved since years.
he wrote, sir this is situation at Vinayak nagar, shaikpet, Hanuman kirana shop lane Your hmwssb officials are least bothered even your instructions which were given several times on this particular lane

On the other hand, the Telangana Government is proud about setting up a dedicated Command & Control Centre which remotely tracks and reports on the performance of this smart Waste Collection & Transport system on a 24×7 basis.
God knows, which areas these dedicated CCC’s are tracking, quips Chaturvedi, a resident of Shaikpet.
It is astonishing to compare to other cities which have over 40 lakh population in the country, Hyderabad bagged 17th rank in Swachh Survekshan, he said. Overall, the residents are not happy with the local bodies performance.
as per a report, there are many areas in Hyderabad, that goes unnoticed and people are just fed up complaining the authorities.
Even the collected waste is mostly dumped on the outskirts of towns/cities and has created serious environmental and public health problems.
Studies have shown that a high percentage of individuals who live near or on disposal sites are infected by gastrointestinal parasites, worms, and other pathogenic organisms.
The insanitary methods adopted for disposal of municipal solid wastes are, therefore, a serious health concern. The poorly maintained landfill sites are causes of surface and groundwater contamination, and air pollution.
In an effort to make the Hyderabad City free from solid waste, the Telangana Government Should launch a comprehensive solid waste management project in all the 142 urban local bodies in the city.
It is to be noted that the Telangana government has already provided a financial assistance of ₹2,062 crore to 142 urban local bodies (ULBs) under the ‘Pattana Pragathi’ programme. The programme is aimed at improvement of sanitation and infrastructure in ULBs.
Unfortunately, despite being spending crores of money, it does not manage proper solid waste management system right from collection up to its proper disposal.
Most of those uncollected wastage poses a high risk to the public through blockage of drains and formation of stagnant ponds which provide a breeding ground for flies and mosquitoes with a high risk of diseases.

However, we see a load of debris that is piled up everyday in almost every municipality. This is because there is no waste management system that is dedicated to take care of this menace.

TRASH COLLECTION DATA IS MISLEADING – BY DECCAN CHRONICLE
The Garbage collection work by the GHMC again came as a shocker when officials declared that the amount of garbage carried from the city is 7,000 mts.
The figures were put out when about 30 per cent of SWACCH AUTO TIPPERS went missing.
Surprisingly, the GHMC has no counter check facility and they have been entirely depending on the private agency which has been weighing the garbage at Jawahar Nagar dumping yard.

The Govt should devote a special wing who at first acquire data on daily basis and do GIS mapping to take stock of the quantity of waste generated every day in the households, commercial establishments, markets, schools, and offices.
The initiative can be put, on a pilot basis,
