Ganesh Immersion, Hyderabad – The Musheerabad Constituency Youth protested heavily against the court order for not allowing Ganesh Immersion or Nimajjanam in Tank Bund, yesterday.
They youth blocked the road, showing protests with slogans of POLICE DOWN DOWN.
It is to be noted that Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi on Monday warned the TG government against stopping the immersion of Ganesh idols.
Samithi said that it would immerse the Ganesh idol in the Hussain Sagar ( also called as Tank Bund ) on Sep 9 (Friday), as it is ‘Ananta Chaturdashi’ day.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi Gen Secy, Dr. Bhagwanth Rao said that there was confusion among devotees after social media and Whatsapp messages in groups differed information on the exact date of the Khairatabad Ganesh immersion.
Immersion will be done on Friday at any cost at Hussain Sagar Lake. Any attempt to prevent or create hurdles will be dealt with strongly. It is about Hindu sentiments,” he warned.
Bhagwanth alleged that the State government despite assuring necessary arrangements at the Tank Bund and Necklace Road for immersion of idols, in Tank Bund nothing has been done so far.
Immersion of idols is an age old sacred practice followed from decades and we cannot immerse the idols in dirty ponds or untidy water bodies. It’s a matter of belief and religious practice for us, he said.
Also, the TG government hasn’t notified properly about the artificial ponds where the Ganesh idols are to be immersed by people, it’s a lot of confusion under the garb of High Court orders, he added.
General Secretary also declared that Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi would do a bike rally on Tank Bund on Tuesday and demand immersion of idols in Tank Bund.
It is to be noted that the samithi members have also invited Assam CM Himanta Biswa as a chief guest for the Khairtabad Ganesh immersion.
The Court Direction On Ganesh Immersion
In an interim order issued on Thursday, impacting Ganesh festivities, the Telangana High Court ordered the State government to prohibit immersion of Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) in Tank Bund and other lakes.
A bench of Acting Chief Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao and Justice T. Vinod Kumar also ordered the govt that Ganesh idol immersion must be prohibited from Tank Bund side in Hussain Sagar waters.
The slew of directions were given by the bench after hearing a Contempt of Court matter following a writ petition with regard to the environmental pollution because of immersion of idols in Hussain sagar.
As per the court, the idols made of PoP can be immersed in baby artificial ponds, constructed by the GHMC or different places, which don’t allow the flow of polluted water in the main steam water body of Tank Bund.
For this, the state government can utilise the inflatable rubber dam walls, earlier used while dredging operations on Tank Bund by encircling the area of immersion for idols,” the bench instructed.
Reiterating on idols immersion in Tank Bund, the bench said that idols (not made of PoP and not containing synthetic colors) can be submerged from Sanjeevaiah park and PV Ghat sides.
The state agencies should advise public to use low height and eco-friendly idols. They should motivate people to carry rituals in simple fashion without attracting huge crowds, it added.
The licenses for pandals should be limited and fixed. Authorities must advice to organisers to switch over to online darshans or stream the festival through social medial platforms or local tv networks, the bench said.
Meanwhile, Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay on Monday warned the state government against creating hurdles in the Ganesh visarjan in Hyderabad on the pretext of Supreme Court orders.
He said, it is unfortunate that the TRS government had been creating a strained atmosphere every year during the immersion of Ganesh idols.
TRS had been conniving to create fence to the festivals on the pretext of environmental pollution.
It it pitiful, that the devotees are compelled every year to take permission from the revenue, police, fire and electricity departments to organise the festivals in public.
Even after all the permissions are procured, the officials are creating difficulties for the Ganesh immersion. The government has been projecting any festival of Hindus as a law and order issue,” he alleged.
