Sexual Offense Case – A criminal court in Hyderabad on 9th August 2022, convicted a doctor to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for groping a woman patient 6 years ago.
The Judge also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the doctor after proving guilty of sexual offense with the 54-year-old patient at his clinic in Secunderabad.
The unfortunate incident took place in the year 2016. The sufferer complained after which a criminal case was registered under sections 376 and 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Pulmonologist B. Vijay Bhaskar, at the Gopalapuram police station.
A pulmonologist diagnoses and treats diseases of the respiratory system and specializes in lung conditions. The doctor was arrested, but was later released on bail.
During the trial, the police produced collected evidence against the accused which the court found him guilty.
As per the police officials, the sufferer had consulted the doctor for respiratory problem and treatment in May 2016.
while diagnosing, the doctor allegedly fondled her private parts and when she questioned him, he explained and convinced her that it was the part of the diagnosis and treatment.
On Sep 24, 2016, on her second consultation, the doctor again misbehaved with her. During the third consultation to his clinic on October 7 the same year, she saw a young woman in a verbal spat with the doctor.
The sufferer learnt that the doctor had misbehaved with the young woman as well, following which she realized that he had been molesting her.
The victim informed her husband about the incident and subsequently lodged a complaint against the doctor.
In this case, the police also learnt that another victim had lodged a complaint against the same doctor in 2016. However, the doctor was acquitted in the lower court.
She then challenged the lower court order in the high court and her petition is pending.
