Over 200 students from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh who were stranded in the midst of violent clashes in Manipur were finally reunited with their families and loved ones in Hyderabad, thanks to a special aircraft arranged by the state government.
The students were stranded in Manipur due to the ongoing violence and were living in fear as the area around their institutions was being bombed.
A total of 214 Telugu students were transported by a special plane that arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at 12:22 p.m. on Monday.
The remaining 108 students were from Andhra Pradesh, while 106 were from Telangana. Upon their arrival, the students were greeted by Minister Malla Reddy and other officials who provided them with food and transportation to their destinations.
The Telangana Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, directed the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to get in touch with Manipur officials to ensure the safe return of the stranded students.
The state government arranged and paid for a special aircraft to bring the students back home.
The students expressed their relief at being safely reunited with their families and thanked Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for his efforts in ensuring their safe return.
One student, Spurthy, also reported that 26 female NIT Manipur students had arrived safely in Hyderabad and that they were promised assistance by MLC K. Kavitha.
More students are expected to arrive in Hyderabad by Monday night via various flights from Raipur, Patna, and Bhubaneswar.
The students were welcomed by MLA Prakash Goud, protocol department secretary Arvind Singh, collector for the Rangareddy district Harish, CID director Mahesh Bhagwat, and other officials.
