New Delhi: Buoyed by its significant triumph in the recent state elections, the BJP is actively preparing to finalize its candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
There are indications that the party leadership is contemplating the inclusion of several Rajya Sabha heavyweights in the candidate lineup.
Insiders reveal that the early announcement strategy, successfully tested in the state polls, has provided the BJP with a crucial advantage over its competitors.
This approach not only helped the party gain a HeadStart but also addressed concerns of those overlooked, smoothing any discord.
“The momentum is in our favor, and we anticipate further improvement, making it an opportune time for a repeat performance and to introduce formidable figures who have not yet entered the electoral arena,” a source stated.
The move is expected to elevate the stature of the individuals involved and create opportunities for others in the Rajya Sabha. The source emphasized that no final decision has been reached on this matter.
According to sources, announcing the Lok Sabha slate well in advance of the Election Commission’s schedule declaration aligns with the party’s belief that the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a pivotal factor in their success, will play a more direct and potent role in the central elections.
During a two-day national office-bearers meeting, state presidents of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh presented insights into the positive outcomes of the early candidate announcements.
Departing from past practices, this shift resulted in a significant number of nominees from the initial lists securing comfortable victories. Sources suggest that the party may initiate candidate announcements by the end of January, anticipating poll dates in February or March.
Additionally, there are indications that select prominent figures may be urged to contest the polls, continuing the party’s strategy from recent assembly elections where sitting Lok Sabha MPs were fielded, and those emerging victorious were requested to resign as MPs and continue as MLAs.
Notably, recently inducted into the Mohan Yadav ministry in Madhya Pradesh, Prahlad Patel and Rakesh Singh, both multiple-time MPs, now serve as state ministers.
Narendra Singh Tomar, a prominent figure in the Modi government since 2014, currently holds the position of the speaker of the Madhya Pradesh assembly.
