Kerala Auto Driver Wins Rs 25 cr Lottery
Anoop, from Sreevaraham, an auto driver in Kerala, who had plans to fly to Malaysia to work as a chef has become rich overnight.
He has won the Rs 25 crore Onam bumper lottery on Sunday, only a day after his application for a Rs 3 lakh loan was approved.
Even more intriguing, is his ticket which he purchased on Saturday with TJ 750605, numbers.
Speaking to media he informed, that although it was not his first option, he continued to purchase the ticket as he did not like the first ticket, so he chose another, which turned out to be a winner, he explained.
Apparently delighted Anoop explained on the loan and his vacation to Malaysia, “When the bank contacted today about the loan, I told them I didn’t need it anymore. I’m not going to Malaysia either.”
Anoop revealed that he is buying the lottery tickets since 22 years and has won amounts ranging from a few hundreds to Rs 5,000.
“I wasn’t expecting to win, so I didn’t watch the lottery results on TV. When I checked my phone, I discovered that I had won. I couldn’t believe it and immediately showed it to my wife. She confirmed that the number was the winning one “He stated.
Still in disbelief, he sent his ticket snap to a female friend who sells the lottery tickets. She confirmed that the number was the winning one Anoop said.
Anoop will mostly take home roughly Rs 15 crore after taxes. On asking his plans to do with the windfall, he expressed his first dream to build a nice house for his family and pay off his obligations.
Aside building house, he wants to help his relatives, perform some charity work, and start something new in the food industry in Kerala.
His wife, informed reporters that Anoop has been buying the tickets for years. “We are getting a lot of calls since everyone found out about the win,” she added.
“I’ll buy lottery tickets again,” Anoop replied as reporters pressed him for a few comments.
It is to be noted that last year, also an another auto-rickshaw driver won the Onam bumper lottery for Rs 12 crore.
Last year, Jayapalan P R, an auto driver from Maradu in Kochi, won the lotto. The winner of this year’s second reward of Rs 5 crore will be TG 270912.
Besides, 10 additional people have received Rs 1 crore each in the Onam lotto.
The winning number was chosen earlier in the day at Gorky Bhavan by state Finance Minister K N Balagopal during a lucky draw session.
This year, Onam, the 10-day festival began on August 30 and ended on Thursday on September 8.
This eve symbolises homecoming of demon king Mahabali, and is one of the popular and biggest festival of Kerala and is celebrated all across the state.
