Monkeypox, a rare tropical disease spread by wild animals in West Africa, has unexpectedly spread abroad over the last 2 months, puzzling us what precisely it is and how dangerous it may turn. Now, it has been detected in India as well.

And now, today, a 34-yr-old resident of West Delhi, with no history of international travel, has tested positive for monkeypox virus, confirmed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It is to be noted that this is the 4th patient of the disease being confirmed in India.
The patient was admitted to the Maulana Azad Medical College Hospital after he showed symptoms of monkeypox 3 days ago. His samples were sent to the National Institute Of Virology (NIV) Pune yesterday, for diagnosis – who confirmed positive, said the Health Ministry.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that a quarantine ward has been set up at the Lok Nayak Hospital, and that a special medical team is dedicated to prevent the spread of this virus.
Also, the close contacts of the patient have been identified and are under isolation as per MoHFW guidelines.
Taking 4th case into serious consideration the Union Health Ministry has directed health warriors to monitor “Further public health interventions like identification of the source of infection, enhanced contact tracing, testing sensitization of private practitioners across the nation.
