The University of Hyderabad’s students is calling for a debate between the candidates running in the Gender Sensitization Committee Against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH) elections due to the growing gender insensitivity on campus.
The university’s election commission has received a letter of request in this regard from the All India Students Association (AISA).
It should be noted that last year after a foreign graduate student accused him of sexually assaulting her, a professor from the University of Hyderabad was detained.
- The suspect was identified as Ravi Ranjan, a professor in the School of Humanities’ Hindi Department.
- As per the reports, the victim was invited to Ravi Ranjan’s home under the guise of receiving a book from him.
- Ravi Ranjan lives on the campus in Gachibowli. He allegedly made her an alcohol offer before assaulting her sexually.

The university’s election commission has received a letter of request in this regard from the All India Students Association (AISA).
On February 24, the student union elections for 2023 will take place, and on February 23, the presidential and general secretary candidates will debate and present their platforms.
GSCASH is not a union member, but for logistical reasons, their elections have been combined.
All India Students Association members have demanded that GSCASH candidates be given time to address the audience.
The students have informed the election commission that it is critical to start a dialogue with the GSCASH Debate due to the rise in sexual harassment cases against members of the queer community and other minority genders on campus.
The letter claims that it is crucial to investigate the acts of violence that university employees have experienced at a time when the campus is about to vote.
GSCASH has three female representatives from each of the research programme, post-graduate programme, and integrated programme.
During the presidential elections in 2017–18, the candidates for GSCASH were given a slot for a debate; however, the debate did not occur during the most recent elections in 2019–20.
