Telangana Government Embraces Artificial Intelligence to Streamline Praja Palana Application Process
In a groundbreaking move, the Telangana government is set to revolutionize the Praja Palana application process by incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
The decision follows challenges observed during the implementation of five guarantees in Karnataka, where issues of duplicate forms surfaced.
Security Concerns Surrounded Praja Palana Data Handling
It is noteworthy that on January 8th, 2024, alarm bells were raised about the security and privacy of Praja Palana forms, after a video featuring a local reporter questioning a private company worker, ostensibly affiliated with a bike taxi app, went viral.

The focus of concern centers on the security of Praja Palana forms, with 1.11 crore individuals having applied for Congress’s five guarantees.
The gravity of the situation became evident when Praja Palana applications were found scattered on the Balanagar flyover road.
The video captures the aftermath of the forms accidentally falling from a private employee’s two-wheeler while in transit from the ECIL area to Kukatpally.
Expressing their anger and apprehensions, individuals in the footage questioned how applications, initially meant for secure handling by officials, ended up in the possession of private companies.
This incident unfolded after the State government established a cabinet sub-committee to oversee guarantee implementation in Praja Palana applications.
Despite the government’s assurance and the engagement of 30,000 data entry operators for online application uploading until the end of January, public concerns regarding data security persisted.
Ending the worries and focusing on the safety of personal info, including phone numbers and Aadhaar numbers, of the 1.11 crore applicants, led by Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, a recent cabinet sub-committee meeting resolved to enlist the expertise of the Hyderabad-based Centre for Good Governance, in collaboration with the state’s infotech department, to deploy AI tools.
Their primary objective is to meticulously examine the massive 1.2 crore submissions of Praja Palana applications and identify any potential duplicate forms.
The impetus for this transformative decision is rooted in the desire to address challenges experienced during the implementation of guarantees in Karnataka.
Duplicate forms proved to be a stumbling block, prompting the Telangana government to proactively adopt AI as a strategic solution to preempt similar complications in the Praja Palana process.
The ambitious plan aims to implement six guarantees before March 16, 2024, covering 13 major welfare schemes. The sheer volume of 1.2 crore applications collected from villages and towns across the state between December 28 and January 6 necessitates a more streamlined approach.
The labor-intensive task of manually entering data to identify genuine beneficiaries demands significant resources, making the integration of AI a timely and effective solution.
By harnessing the power of AI, the Telangana government aims to not only expedite the Praja Palana application process but also enhance the accuracy and transparency of beneficiary identification.
This innovative approach reflects the state’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology for the betterment of welfare schemes, setting a precedent for efficient governance in the digital age.
