Chandigarh University Protesting students alleged that a fellow student made videos of girl students while taking a bath in the hostel and posted them on social media.
On learning this few girl students living in the hostel attempted suicide.
A video showing the warden grilling the girl student who allegedly created the video fueled the protest.
As per the institution, the warden was interviewing the girl to determine whether or not any footage was taken.
However, the students have accused the university administration of covering up.
In the video, the warden is clearly seen threatening the student- when other students were already in fear.
The matter was not handled properly, said one of the students.
As per the sources, the accused girl allegedly made tapes of 60 other students in recent months; however, HNT has yet to find the exact number of videos made.
After the incident became public, it was reported that 8 girls committed suicide; however, officials have disputed the claims. “An FIR was filed in the matter, and the accused student was arrested,” police said.
There has been no documented fatalities as a result of this incident.
However, both the police and the university management has denied any suicide attempt.
On seeing the viral video of students being carried to van the police claimed a student had collapsed during protests.

In exchange for money, the accused used to sell these videos. The girl was caught red-handed while filming a video.
As per fellow mates, the girl student who shot the films is from Mohali and gave them to a buddy in Shimla.
Protesting girls have also accused the university management of subduing the incident instead of taking action, which led to several of students agitating outside the university.
The videos have been circulated deliberately by the management to pass on the blame to students, one of the girl alleged.
