Illegal Phone Tapping Case: High-Ranking Police Arrested in Hyderabad
In a stunning turn of events, high-ranking police officials in Hyderabad have come under intense scrutiny amidst a corruption probe that has unearthed alarming accusations of illicit phone tapping and misuse of authority within the law enforcement apparatus.
Hyderabad Police have apprehended two high-ranking police officials in relation to the ongoing investigation into allegations of unauthorized phone tapping and the destruction of critical computer systems and official data.
According to an official statement released by Hyderabad police late on Saturday night, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Thirupathanna and Additional Superintendent of Police N Bhujanga Rao have been taken into custody.
Both individuals have previously served in key roles within the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) and Intelligence Department, having held positions as Additional Superintendents of Police.
A Nexus of Corruption and Abuse of Power Within Law Enforcement?
This latest development underscores the seriousness of the investigation into the alleged misconduct, as law enforcement authorities continue to pursue all leads and ensure accountability within the ranks of the police force.
The accused, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Thirupathanna and Additional Superintendent of Police N Bhujanga Rao, have been implicated in collusion with suspended DSP of the SIB, D Praneeth Rao, who was previously apprehended by Hyderabad police.
Praneeth Rao stands accused of unlawfully erasing intelligence information from various electronic devices and engaging in unauthorized phone tapping during the previous administration.
According to the official release, the two arrested police officials have admitted to their involvement in a range of crimes, including the unlawful monitoring of private individuals by exploiting their official positions.
They are also alleged to have conspired to destroy public property to conceal their complicity, in conjunction with Praneeth Rao and other accomplices.
The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to delve into the matter.
Praneeth Rao, who was recently suspended by the Telangana government, had previously served as a DSP under the previous administration and was later stationed at the office of the Director General of Police (DGP).
He had previously faced allegations of phone tapping aimed at opposition party leaders.

Following a complaint filed by an additional superintendent of police of the SIB on March 10, a case was registered against Praneeth Rao and others at the Panjagutta police station, charging them with criminal breach of trust by a public servant, destruction of evidence, and criminal conspiracy.
