Raja Singh’s wife, T Usha Bai, met with Telangana Governor Tamilasai Soundararajan along with Raja Singh’s sisters to request her to intervene in MLA’s case and release him from jail.
Usha Bai asked the Governor of Telangana to intervene and direct the State Government to repeal the PD Act and release him.
It is to be noted that Raja Singh is in jail for nearly a month after the Hyderabad Police invoked PD Act against him.
The police invoked PD Act against Raja Singh after his ill comments on Prophet Mohammed in a video.
Submitting a representation to the Governor, Usha Bai stated “Many times for every small comment and statement made by my husband police booked cases and detained him several times, under government pressure.
As an opposition party leader, many times he accused the ruling party on the anti-people policies and activities. The special court constituted regarding this, gave justice and acquitted him.
However, the state booked him again and invoked Preventive Detention Act out of revenge, she said. She also complained on police saying they are harassing BJP Karyakartas and supporters in the name of enquiry.
Usha Bai requested the Governor interfere and instruct the state government to quash the PD Act and release him.
Usha Bai also filed a writ petition before the Telangana High Court on Sep 5 challenging his husband’s custody under the PD Act.
It can be recalled that the legislator was detained on Aug 26th 2022, after he made disparaging remarks against Prophet Muhammad in a Youtube video on August 22.
Last month, the row erupted after, despite attempts from Telangana’s BJP groups to cancel the show, the stand up comedian Munawar Faruqui successfully culminated the show.
In retaliation, the very next day BJP MLA Raja Singh created a ‘comic’ video on Jai Shree Ram Youtube Channel in which he quoted offensive remarks against Prophet Muhammad, that badly upset muslims.
Raja Singh defended saying The video was in ‘retaliation’ to Munawar Faruqui who allegedly hurt Hindu sentiments. Currently, he is arrested under PD act.
