Telangana: In a deeply disturbing incident, a two-month-old baby boy was allegedly killed by his mother at an under-construction apartment complex in Baurampet on Tuesday.
According to the police, the matter came to light following a Dial 100 emergency call received around 12 noon on February 24.
The caller reported the suspicious death of an infant at Speed Sunrally Apartments located near the Outer Ring Road. Responding swiftly, a police team reached the site to assess the situation.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Shankar Reddy stated that officers discovered alarming evidence at the location.
The infant’s mouth had reportedly been stuffed with cloth, and his legs were tied with rope. Preliminary findings suggest the child succumbed to injuries before the body was allegedly placed in a fire.
The complainant, Rajendra Adivasi, 21, originally from Nowgaon village in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district, has been working as a labourer at the construction site for the past month.
He was residing in a temporary accommodation at the site along with his wife, Mamata Ahirwar, 20, and their infant son, Surya.
In his statement to the police, Rajendra said he had left for work on Tuesday morning, leaving the baby in his wife’s care.
Upon returning around 11 am, he claimed to have seen his wife near a fire pit and discovered the infant being burnt. He alleged that the child had already died by the time he intervened.
During the investigation, police learned that the baby had been crying frequently over the past few days and that the mother appeared distressed due to this.
Authorities suspect that she allegedly attempted to silence the infant by stuffing cloth into his mouth and tying his legs.
Following the child’s death, she is believed to have tried to dispose of the body by burning it.
A case has been registered, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Police officials stated that all possible angles, including domestic circumstances and mental health considerations, are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
