Karan Sangwan, a former educator at Unacademy, suspects that he may have been dismissed from the online teaching platform due to potential “political pressure”.
Sangwan, now a subject of controversy after a video containing his remarks garnered widespread attention on social media, remains firm in his words.
In his remarks, he encouraged his students to vote for leaders who are well-educated.
In an interview addressing Media, Sangwan expressed his dismay and said he attempted to have a discussion with Unacademy’s high-ranking officials but to no avail, as they simply stated, “We cannot do anything”.
He went on to share that he has been associated with Unacademy since 2021, and now his profile has vanished. “There may be political pressure”, asserted Sangwan, shedding light on his possible expulsion.
In a widely circulated video clip, Karan Sangwan is shown addressing the recent legislative actions undertaken by the government to reform the country’s criminal justice system.
Sangwan advises his students, “When you cast your vote in the next election, it’s critical to choose a well-educated individual to avoid repeating this experience.
Vote for someone with an understanding and education, not someone who merely changes names. Make a reasoned decision,” he conveyed in the video purportedly indicating towards PM Modi.
Sangwan expressed his surprise and disappointment at how a clip of him was virally circulated and misrepresented on social media. He stated, “I was taken out of context.”
Speaking further about his comments that were misunderstood, Sangwan said that he was merely making a broad statement. “My intention was to guide people correctly.
What I value and am seeking are well-educated individuals. However, education, in my view, is not merely the acquisition of knowledge in a classroom environment. It also encompasses the knowledge I have gained in my class, which I am now sharing.”
Reacting to his contract termination by Unacademy, Sangwan acknowledged that the agreement with the online platform stipulates that he should not make political statements.
However, he pointed out that the contract lacks clarity on the definition of a “political statement”.
Hiding his subliminal message, Karan Sangwan denied referencing any specific name or party during his discourse.
He explained that Unacademy, in an email communication, relayed a tweet to him claiming damage to their goodwill, without any prior conversation. Despite this, Sangwan stands his ground, reinforcing the accuracy of his comments and their pertinence to education.
In the aftermath of the controversy that arose, Sangwan was subjected to a slew of online ridicule – a situation that also put Unacademy in an uncomfortable position.
He speculated that perhaps it was this pressure that ultimately led to his dismissal. He further dismissed claims suggesting he is affiliated with any political party, expressing his sole dedication to the teaching profession.
Sangwan also shed light on his plans to utilize his YouTube channel as a platform for offering free education to children.
Reflecting on the receipt of his termination from Unacademy, Sangwan disclosed his dismay. Mirroring his emotion were his pupils, who were left uncertain about their academic future, he added.
