In an anti-terror operation encounter in Baramulla that started yesterday morning at Wanigam village after police and army launched a joint operation, the Army’s Sniffer dog Axel was killed during a fierce gun battle that ensued between the security forces and the terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, the police informed.
During the fight, a terrorist was killed and 3 security forces personnel were injured.
Another sniffer dog along with Axel were sent inside the cordoned house fitted with bodycams to detect the terrorist but was fired upon by them. Hit by 3 bullets, Axel soldier breathed his last at the encounter site but brought victory to the Indian Forces.
The Jawans launched a joint operation, after a reliable tip-off about the presence of at least three terrorists, including one Pakistan national, in the area. Amid the heavy firing, two terrorists managed to escape, the police informed.
To find the terrorists, two army dogs- Bajaj and Axel- were sent inside the target house wearing bodycams. During the heavy firing from both ends, Alex was hit by three bullets by the hiding terrorists.
Alex died on the spot. Postmortem revealed more than 10 wounds and fracture of the femur. Wreath laying ceremony scheduled for today by Kilo Force commander.
