Gujarat exports the first shipment of plant based meat products under the Vegan food category to the United States.
The Center intends to increase vegan food exports to Australia, Israel, and New Zealand as well.
In an effort to boost exports of unique agricultural processed food products, the centre facilitated the export of the first consignment of plant-based meat products under Vegan food category from Nadiad in Kheda district in Gujarat to California, the United States of America, via the apex export promotion body Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Authority (APEDA) (USA).
Because of the high nutrient value of vegan food products, plant-based food products have a great export potential in the worldwide market, owing to the growing popularity of vegan food products in developed countries.
Vegan food products are getting more popular around the world because to their high fibre content and low cholesterol levels.
Nadiad’s initial shipment to the US included vegan cuisine items such as momos, tiny samosas, patties, nuggets, spring rolls, burgers, and so on.
The Kheda district administration provided logistical support.
APEDA Chairman, Dr M Angamuthu, emphasised the need of exploring new foreign destinations, saying that APEDA is working hard to promote plant-based meat products without disrupting the traditional animal-based meat export market.
On the event, Kheda DM K.L. Bachani promised APEDA of all required future support for export-related initiatives.
In the following months, the APEDA intends to promote a variety of vegan food products, including as pancakes, snacks, and cheese, to Australia, Israel, New Zealand, and other nations.
APEDA has taken number of export promotion activities and initiatives, by way of development of virtual portals for organizing Virtual Trade Fairs.
The first consignment of plant-based food products were exported by Greennest and Wholesome Foods from the state of Gujarat.
APEDA organizes participation of exporters in the International Trade Fairs, which provides a platform to market their food products in the global marketplace.
APEDA also organizes national events like AAHAR, Organic World Congress, BioFach India etc. to promote agri-exports.
APEDA has authorised 220 labs across India to provide testing services to exporters in order to provide seamless quality certification of products to be exported.
