Kedarnath Dham to Open at 6:20 am on April 25th, Char Dham Pilgrimage Preparations Intensified by Temple Committee
During the Shivratri festival yesterday (18th Feb 2023), the day and time for opening the portals of the Dham at Panch Gaddisthal Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath were announced.
This announcement has also set the date for the grand opening of the Char Dham.

The auspicious hour for pilgrims to enter Kedarnath Dham has been determined to be 6:20 am on April 25th.
This timing is based on the birth sign of Baba Kedar, which is Gemini, and an almanac calculation that is used to determine the most auspicious date and hour for opening the Dham’s doors. The opening will take place in the Mesh Lagna
Baba Kedar’s birth sign is Gemini
As per the claims of the chief priest of Kedarnath Dham, Shiv Shankar Ling, Baba Kedar was born under the sign of Gemini, based on which an almanac calculation is made to determine the most auspicious date and hour for opening the Dham’s doors.
Furthermore, the position of the Moon is also taken into consideration, and the doors are only opened according to the scriptures when the Moon’s position is directly in front.
Visit Badrinath Dham Only After Kedarnath
- The journey through Chardham is often described in the scriptures as a path from devotion to salvation.
- That’s why the Chardham Yatra traditionally begins in Yamunotri and takes a stop at Badrinath Dham after passing through Gangotri and Kedarnath.
- Goddess Yamuna Bhakti, Maa Ganga Gyan, Baba Kedar Vairagya, and Lord Badri are all associated with the concept of widespread salvation in the Chardham pilgrimage.
- According to the Kedarkhand section of the Skanda Purana, it is recommended to visit Kedarnath Dham before Badrinath Dham. Only then is the Chardham Yatra considered to be successfully completed.

- Following this, the date for opening the portals of the Dham was decided in the presence of officials from the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee, Vedpathis, Acharyas, and other stakeholders.
According to the Panchang calculation, on April 20th, the caretaker of Kedarpuri, Baba Bhairavnath, will be worshipped at the Omkareshwar Temple.
Meanwhile, the idol of Baba Kedarnath will be taken in a procession on its first leg from the Omkareshwar Temple to Guptkashi on April 21st.
On April 22nd, the procession will reach Fata, and on April 23rd, it will rest at Gaurikund. On April 24th, the procession will reach Kedarnath Dham and the doors of the Dham will be opened on April 25th.

The first team of the temple committee will leave for Badri-Kedar on March 15th.
- The Kedarnath temple committee has announced the date for the opening of the gates of Kedarnath and with this, preparations for the pilgrimage have been intensified.
- The advance team of the committee will leave for Kedarnath and Badrinath on March 15 to assess the arrangements for the journey.
- On Saturday, in a review meeting with officials at the Omkareshwar temple, temple committee chairman Ajendra Ajay shared this information.
- He said that no negligence would be tolerated in the arrangements for the pilgrimage.
- He also shared that a well-organized team of dedicated and skilled workers from the temple committee will be sent to the shrines of Badrinath and Kedarnath to finalize the preparations.
- The committee’s CEO, Yogendra Singh, said that the SOP for the pilgrimage arrangements will be released soon.
It is said that the temple committee sent the teams to study the arrangements in four major temples in the country:
- Tirupati Balaji,
- Vaishno Devi,
- Mahakaleshwar, and
- Somnath.
- After discussing the report, the committee plans to improve the system in the Dhams as well.
