Is Anjani Kumar, the next Telangana’s New DGP?
The current Telangana DGP, Mudireddy Mahender Reddy, will retire on December 31, 2022, and a new DGP will take over on January 1, 2023.
The appointment becomes crucial in light of the upcoming assembly elections in 2023 and the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
Two IPS Officers Ahead In The Race For DGP
In the list for DGP race are
- Umesh Sharraf (IPS: 1989: TG),
- Anjani Kumar (IPS: 1990: TG),
- Ravi Gupta (IPS: 1990: TG), and
- C V Anand (IPS: 1991: TG)
Special Protection Force DG. Umesh Sharaf of the 1989 batch is the senior-most among the IPS officers.
But he has only six months left in his service as he retires in 2023.
As per UPSC norms, he is unlikely to be considered for the top post.
Two police officers from 1991 batch are likely to be promoted.
Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand and Rajiv Ratan are in additional director general (ADG) rank.
With the retirement of Govind Singh, both these officers are expected to get promotions.
A committee constituted by the UPSC will finalize three names and send them to the State government to pick one of the officers to be appointed DGP.
The State government has to send the names of five IPS officers who are in the DG rank or have completed 30 years of service.
Anjani Kumar and CV Anand are said to enjoy the confidence of the powers that be.
Ravi Gupta is an expert in information technology and served as IG, additional DGP of Police Communication and Technology, range DIG and IG Warangal before retiring.
Finally, Anjani Kumar and C V Anand have a tough competition between them to be named the state’s new DGP.
Anjani, however, has a distinct advantage over the competition because he previously presided over the DGP charge when the present DGP Mahender Reddy was ill.
As per the reports, the power corridor is therefore buzzing about his success.
