The Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) is given out for conspicuous bravery in the preservation of life and property, the suppression of crime, or the capture of criminals.
The police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM) is given for significant service that demonstrates resourcefulness and devotion to duty, while President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM) is given for exceptionally distinguished performance in the police service.
668 officers received the Police Medal for Meritorious Service, 140 received the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, and 140 received the Police Medal for Gallantry (PM)
On the occasion of Republic Day 2023, 901 police officers received Police Medals in total.
- Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM) has been given to 668 people,
- President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM) to 93,
- and Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) to 140.
The majority of the 140 Gallantry Awards go to 80 personnel from areas affected by Left Wing Extremism and 45 personnel from the Jammu & Kashmir region.
48 members of the CRPF received gallantry awards, 31 from Maharashtra, 25 from the J&K Police, 9 from Jharkhand, 7 from Delhi, Chhattisgarh, & BSF, and the remaining members came from other States/UTs and CAPFs.
