Teachers’ Day is a special day for admiration of teachers, and may involve celebrations to honor them for their special contributions in a particular field area, or the community in general.
Every year, Teachers’ Day is observed in honour of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the greatest teacher and scholar of India.
To celebrate his work and his drive for education, the first Teachers’ Day was celebrated on September 5, 1962, on his 77th birthday.
It is said, that on the occasion of Dr. Radhakrishnan’s birthday, his students requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday but in reply, Dr. Radhakrishnan said that “Instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be a privilege if 5th Sep is observed as Teachers Day”.
From then, the Teacher’s day is celebrated on September 5 and is around the corner. To celebrate this day, the services of eminent teachers are recognized by way of conferring awards on this day.

The Telangana State government is all set to award 49 teachers from different State universities and affiliated colleges, which would be presented on the event of Teachers’ Day 2022 on Monday.
49 teachers of Telangana to be awarded
Among the teachers who has been chosen for the award from Osmania University are
- Prof. P Raja Sekhar, Department of Civil Engineering, OU College of Engineering,
- Dr. M Ramulu, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, OU College of Arts and Social Sciences,
- Dr. Manjula Bhanoori, Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry, and
- Dr. Nazia Sultana, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce, Osmania University College for Women.
While 3 teachers
- Dr. K Mallikarjuna Rao, Assistant Professor of Commerce,
- Dr. K Sarada, Senior Assistant Professor of Mathematics and
- Dr. A Dayanand, Assistant Professor of Chemistry-of Government City College, Hyderabad,
were selected for the award under colleges category.
11 teaching staff including 3 principals and 8 junior lecturers of the Government Junior Colleges and 4 teachers including a principal from the Government Polytechnics were also selected.
The educators were picked based on the recommendations of the committees which were set up for selecting the teachers for State Awards, 2022.
