Rishab Shetty’s Upcoming Film Jai Hanuman Faces Legal Challenge Over Poster Depiction
The much-anticipated film Jai Hanuman, featuring actor Rishab Shetty, has found itself embroiled in legal controversy.
According to reports from a leading news portal, High Court advocate Mamidal Thirumal Rao has filed a case against the actor, director Prasanth Varma, and the producers Mythri Movie Makers.
The legal complaint centers around the depiction of Lord Hanuman in the film’s promotional poster, where the deity is portrayed with a human-like face.
Advocate Rao contends that this representation deviates from traditional iconography and could potentially hurt the sentiments of devotees.
The case has raised questions about creative liberties in the portrayal of religious figures in cinema. As of now, neither the filmmakers nor the cast has released an official statement regarding the allegations.
The controversy has sparked widespread discussions, with fans and critics awaiting further developments as the legal proceedings unfold.
Advocate Alleges Offensive Depiction of Lord Hanuman in Jai Hanuman Poster
High Court advocate Mamidal Thirumal Rao has filed a legal case against the makers of the upcoming film Jai Hanuman at the Nampally Criminal Court, alleging that the film’s promotional material depicts Lord Hanuman in an offensive manner.
Speaking at a press conference, as reported by the Hindustan Times, Rao criticized the teaser and poster, claiming they misrepresent the revered deity.
- According to Rao, the poster portrays actor Rishab Shetty as a powerful king with a muscular physique but with a human face.
- He contended that this depiction prioritizes the actor over the divine figure, deviating from traditional iconography and disrespecting the sanctity of Lord Hanuman.
In his statement, Rao said:
“The teaser of Jai Hanuman was released in October by Mythri Movie Makers, represented by their producers Ravi Shankar and Naveen Yerneni, directed by Prasanth Varma, and featuring Rishab Shetty, an award-winning actor.
The poster shows Rishab as a mighty king with a muscular body. But his face is human. This means they have offensively depicted Lord Hanuman with a human face.”
The advocate has called for action against the filmmakers, alleging that the creative choices diminish the sanctity of Bajrangbali and may hurt the sentiments of devotees.
The filmmakers are yet to comment on the matter as discussions around artistic freedom and religious sensitivity continue to gain traction.
Thirumal stated, “Rishab Shetty is the focal point because he is an award-winning actor, not because he represents Lord Hanuman.
- I have filed a case in the criminal court, which has been accepted, and I presented my arguments.
- As part of this, I am required to demonstrate how Hanuman is traditionally depicted.
- To support my case, I have drawn upon examples of Hanuman’s portrayal across various countries.
