Today that is on May 12, 2023, the Maharashtra government dropped all charges against former Mumbai Police Commissioner, Param Bir Singh, and revoked his suspension orders, considering him as on-duty.
While this brings relief to Singh, who had been facing multiple cases of extortion, corruption, and misconduct, there is resentment in a big section of the ruling dispensation who wanted him punished for his alleged atrocities against people arrested in the name of saffron terror.
Param Bir Singh was removed from his post over his purported mishandling of the Antilia Bomb Scare case, which is still under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The CBI had registered five separate FIRs in the case, and these were previously registered by Mumbai Police.
Singh’s acquittal comes as a surprise to many, given the seriousness of the allegations against him.
Nonetheless, the government’s decision means that Singh is now free to resume his duties, and the ruling dispensation must now contend with the reactions of those who disagree with the decision to drop the charges against him.
