Anti-Conversion Act Passed Today In Bengaluru
According to JA Kanthraj, spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Bengaluru, the Christian community in Karnataka is upset, worried and greatly grieved by the passage of the Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Bill, which has now become an Act.
It is to be noted that early today, the Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Bill, often known as the Anti-Conversion Bill, has been passed in Karnataka’s Upper House.
In response, the Archdiocese of Bengaluru stated that the community feels betrayed for all of its altruistic efforts to society in education, health, and social service.
“The provisions of the Act remain caustic, brutal, and abrasive in nature from what was introduced as a Bill 9 months ago and now translated into an Act,” stated the Archdiocese’s spokesperson.
As per the statement of metropolitan Archbishop, Peter Machado, the Bishops of Karnataka, and other Christian leaders who support the secular fabric of our democratic society will seek legal recourse and fight the Act in its entirety.
“Because our strong objection to the aforementioned Bill is already pending before the Supreme Court and the High Court, we will refrain from speaking more on this topic,” the statement added.
