TSRTC has decided to venture into setting up a driving school to impart theory and practicals oriented driving classes for masses.
The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation, under the aegis of its MD, Vishwanath Channappa Sajjanar, felt that it was best suited to run the driving institute.
He is of the opinion that TSRTC has a brand value of its own that it’s drivers are safe drivers. Hence the TSRTC now proposes to open driving schools to impart training for light motor vehicles to heavy vehicles across the state.
As per the officials, the RTC has 0.07 per cent of accident rate, the lowest in India and the accidents have come down during the last 2 years.
There are 20,870 drivers out of the 50,000 staff and 25 per cent of the drivers were not involved in any accidents.
During 2014-15 there were 968 accidents and 380 deaths and during 2015-16 there were 827 accidents and 348 deaths, which show decrease in accidents.
The syllabus consists of theory and practicals delivered by experienced Instructors in this training.
Officials of the RTC briefed that the corporation is equipped with needed infrastructure to provide training for aspiring drivers and have experienced manpower at big depots in the district headquarters.
It is to be noted that in Hyderabad, the RTC is already runs a driving school for its trainee drivers. This existing infra can be utilized for training drivers for LMVs.
For this, the TSRTC proposed to partner with the Transport department to issue driving licenses like any other driving school in the state.
This will eventually benefit the aspiring drivers to learn driving techniques systematically besides getting a licence through a single window system.
