Prince Eric, a human prince who Ariel falls in love with after striking a deal with Ursula to turn human, will be portrayed by Jonah Hauer-King.
Jonah is a British actor best known for his work in the TV miniseries Howards End and Little Women as well as the movies The Last Photograph and A Dog’s Way Home.

King Triton, Ariel’s father and the ruler of Atlantica, is played by Javier Bardem. Javier most recently received a nomination for his work in Being the Ricardos as Desi Arnaz.


In addition, the cast includes Noma Dumezweni, Jessica Alexander, Russell Balogh, Adrian Christopher, Emily Coates, and Bridgerton standout Simone Ashley in unspecified roles. Jude Akuwudike plays Grimsby, Lorena Andrea plays Perla, and Kajsa Mohammar plays Karina.
The Little Mermaid is being directed by Rob Marshall.

The COVID-19 epidemic caused a delay in filming that was originally scheduled to start in early 2020. In January 2021, principal photography commenced at Pinewood Studios in England.

According to rumours, singer Kacey Musgraves was being considered for the part of Vanessa, Ursula’s human form. The casting, however, was never successful.
