A 24-year-old Sahil Gehlot from Delhi has been arrested for murdering his girlfriend, stuffing her body inside a refrigerator, and marrying another woman on the same day.
The incident happened on Valentine’s Day and was the result of an argument over the accused’s upcoming marriage to another woman.
The body was found several days later in the locked eatery where the accused worked.
On February 14, police in southwest Delhi, revealed that they had arrested a 24-year-old man named Sahil Gehlot for the murder of his girlfriend, Nikki Yadav.
The victim’s body was found in the refrigerator of the man’s dhaba, an Indian eatery, which had been locked since the day of the murder.
Police believe the incident occurred on February 9, when the victim confronted the accused about his upcoming wedding to another woman.
The couple had been in a relationship for several years, and the victim had hoped to marry the accused.
When she found out about his engagement, she reportedly threatened to implicate him in a criminal case if he married someone else.
On the night of February 9, the accused allegedly killed the victim in his car using the data cable from his mobile phone, before hiding her body in the refrigerator at his dhaba.
The victim’s body was discovered four days later on February 14.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to the murder, although he initially attempted to mislead the police.
The accused and the victim had met on a bus while traveling to their respective coaching institutes in January 2018, and they eventually fell in love.
The couple lived together in several different locations, including in a rented house in Dwarka, Delhi, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The accused did not inform his family about his relationship with the victim and was engaged to another woman in December 2022.
His engagement and wedding were scheduled for February 9 and 10, 2023, respectively.
Police have registered a case of murder and causing the disappearance of evidence against the accused, and the postmortem of the victim’s body is scheduled to take place on February 16.
The police are investigating the exact location of the murder and where the accused had intended to dispose of the body.
